Also known as: Lateral Step Up, Side Step-Up, Lateral Box Step-Up
Lateral Step-Up is a compound strength exercise using body only that trains the quadriceps.
StrengthBody OnlyBeginnerCompoundPush
Primary muscles: Quadriceps
Secondary muscles: Abductors, Glutes
How to do it
- Stand beside a box or bench and place the near foot flat on top.
- Lean your chest slightly forward and drive through the heel on the box to step up, bringing the other foot up beside it.
- Keep the working knee tracking over your toes rather than caving inward.
- Step the outside foot back down under control, finish the set, then switch sides.
Track it with MyoAmigo
MyoAmigo pre-fills every set of the Lateral Step-Up from last time, charts your estimated 1RM trend so you can see strength move without testing a true max, and flags a stall with a concrete fix. It also credits this work toward your weekly Quadriceps volume on the MyoMap heatmap. New to the movement? Start with picking a working weight and progressive overload.
