MyoAmigo vs Caliber: coach-shaped feedback without the coach price

If you're choosing between MyoAmigo and Caliber, you're weighing two different philosophies: human coaching on demand versus coach-shaped feedback built into the app — plus your own AI assistant getting full access via MCP. Both are built on evidence. Caliber's strength is real human accountability. MyoAmigo's is that the feedback you need most—stall detection, session verdicts, weekly review—happens automatically, and your own AI assistant gets full access to your history.

What Caliber gets right

Caliber's free tier is genuinely useful. You get solid, strength-focused programming without a paywall—no ads, no gimmicks. The plans reflect real coaching knowledge. And if you want human accountability, Caliber's paid tier connects you with an actual coach who reviews your training and messages you back. That's valuable. It's also expensive, because actual human time costs money.

Caliber wins if you thrive on personal check-ins and feedback from someone who knows coaching. Some lifters feel that monthly human touch matters more than any app feature.

Where MyoAmigo solves a different problem

Most lifters don't need a coach once a month. They need one right now: "Is my volume enough? Have I stalled? What should I do tomorrow?" Caliber's free tier doesn't answer these questions. Its paid tier does—but only if you can afford a coach's wage.

MyoAmigo is built for the feedback loop that actually drives progress. A good AI coach with access to your real data is better than guessing.

Stall detection

MyoAmigo watches your numbers. If a lift stops progressing across a rolling window, it flags you with a concrete prescription: push closer to failure, back off and build a base, or deload for a week. You get analysis, not just a number.

Caliber's approach is manual—you notice, you message your coach (if you're on the paid tier), you wait for a reply.

Session verdict

After you log a workout, MyoAmigo renders an honest judgment: breakthrough, strong, solid, or light. The verdict is measured against your own norms and historical performance, not a generic template. Every verdict cites the reason.

Caliber leaves interpretation to you. If you log 20 sets, that's on you to evaluate.

Weekly review

MyoAmigo generates a coach's summary every week: what you did, how it looked, and what to watch for in the coming days. It's automatic, not a message you wait for, and it feeds into your week-in-review screen so you see the big picture.

Your AI assistant becomes your coach

This is where MyoAmigo differs most radically. MyoAmigo speaks MCP—the protocol that AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini use to access real apps. Connect any of those assistants to MyoAmigo, and they can read your full training history, your PRs, your muscle-balance trends, and create or adjust routines and weekly plans.

You already pay for an AI subscription (if you use one). MyoAmigo makes that subscription into a coach with full access to your data. Competitors lock "AI" inside the app, behind their own paywall, with read-only access to the training history they want to show you. We don't. We hand you the keys.

Offline, local-first, and privacy

Caliber requires an account. MyoAmigo works fully offline on your phone, no account needed. Cloud sync is optional and encrypted. If you want to leave, you export your data as a CSV. That's not a differentiator you'll think about until the day you need it.

Planning and analysis

Both apps generate plans. Caliber's are solid. MyoAmigo's are evidence-based and come with reasoning attached: why this weight, why this progression, why this split. If you disagree with a starting weight, you adjust it on the fly and the adjustment carries into the next session's pre-fill. The plan generator also respects equipment—tell it what machines your gym has, and it won't prescribe a leg press if you don't have one.

MyoAmigo also tracks muscle balance against published hypertrophy targets, renders strength standards for your bodyweight, and shows a weekly heatmap of which muscles you hit. Analysis that leans into why you train, not just what you logged.

Apple Watch

Caliber's watch support is light. MyoAmigo's is full: standalone sessions from the wrist, crown-dial reps, one-tap logging, automatic rest ring, and per-set heart-rate data (average and peak) stamped on every lift. Your watch is a wrist-based cockpit, not a remote display of your phone.

Gym awareness

Caliber is location-agnostic. MyoAmigo knows your gyms. On-device geofencing surfaces today's session when you arrive. A barcode check-in card (full brightness, also on your watch) replaces the paper ID and lets you jot a locker number. The app quietly tags sessions with location so you can later ask, "What did I do at the home gym vs the commercial gym?" And the plan generator respects which machines each location has.

It's a quiet layer of coaching that Caliber doesn't touch.

The honest concession

Caliber wins if you need human accountability. A real human, reading your lifts, sending you a message, paying attention to you as a person—that's the gold standard. MyoAmigo doesn't pretend otherwise. Most lifters, though, need feedback faster and more often than a monthly coaching session can provide. That's where app-native analysis and your own AI assistant step in.

MyoAmigo is built to be the coaching layer you access every day—stall detection, session verdicts, weekly review, and (if you want it) your own AI assistant reading your full history and advising on the next week. It costs less than a real human coach and works offline on your phone, no ads, no account required.

FAQ

Can I use MyoAmigo without creating an account?

Yes. MyoAmigo works fully offline. You create an account only if you want encrypted cloud sync across devices.

What's an MCP coach?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard protocol that lets AI assistants like Claude or ChatGPT connect to real apps and read real data. Connect MyoAmigo to your favorite AI assistant, and it can read your training history, PRs, and muscle balance, then create or adjust routines and plans. No other strength tracker offers this.

How often does MyoAmigo analyze my training?

After every session, you get a verdict. Every week, you get a coach's review. Stall detection runs continuously in the background. All of it is automatic and doesn't require you to message an app or wait for a human reply.

Does MyoAmigo work on Android?

Not yet. MyoAmigo is iOS and Apple Watch only. We're focused on building the best experience on Apple's platforms first.
